La Marquesa
Tight course built in two loops of nine, with back nine across fairly busy
road. Set in palm tree lined valley surrounded by ex pat housing estate, the
hazards on this course are all down the right hand side and consist of roads
and river beds though the bunkers are well placed and guard many greens.
This is a course where length of the tee is not important but the ability
not to hit straight is. There are a few interesting holes, and the back nine
is more difficult than the opening nine. Chatting to locals the course
though popular is not rated very highly with most saying that la Finca a few
KM's away is much more interesting though obviously more expensive. I paid
58 euros for a round in early March, and this is one of the cheaper courses.
At these prices it pays to research the courses before you go and maybe play
less but play better. I overall considered this to be an average course but
with a premium price that was only justified by its Spanish location.
Excellent practise facilities and clubhouse though.

Alenda Golf Club
is situated very close to the Sierra de las Aguilas mountains and
the sea, and this location means it has a pleasant climate. It is an
18-hole course, with a gentle, undulating and varied round. It is
very entertaining for players of all levels, and you will really
need to use all of your clubs. It’s quite a quick round, as all of
the holes are linked together and the walks from green to tee are
short. Accuracy is more important than distance. You have to
be careful on the 16th and 18th, as these are the two holes which
will decide the final result on your score card.
The greens give a special character to the course because the slopes
allow for a wide variety of flag positions and you will need to
visualise the break very clearly when putting and hit the ball with
just the right amount of “oomph” if you want to hole out in good
order.
Alicante golf course
weaves it's way through the housing estates. Designed by Severiano
Ballesteros. It is not for the faint hearted as drives need to be
straight, especially on the back nine. The 1.50 € insurance charged
by the club shows how difficult this can be. Do not be put off it is
well worth playing. I have played it several times and It gets
better each time. Buggy essential.
The 156 room Hotel Hesperia is a
wonderful 5 star complex overlooking the golf course and includes a
SPA and Wellness Centre, and outside pool. Special rates apply for
the golf if you take a room here, but at 200
€ per person per
night for a double and 14 € each for breakfast, it definitely is for
the wealthy golfer.
Campoamor Golf Club, longer
than the other courses in the area, but the fairways are wider so
there's more room to "have a go"! Built in 2 valleys, lush fairways
and fast greens, with palm, pine and orange trees. Impressive
clubhouse, restaurant and bars, but the pro shop hasn't got much
apart from clothes and balls. Beautiful course, give it a try, you
will love it.
Reservations more than 7 days ahead must be by Fax.
With number of players, handicaps of each player, date(s) and
approximate time that you would like. On reply you must confirm.
Don't forget Buggies or club hire. Proper dress required, no
t-shirts, swimming costumes etc. Handicap certificates are required
(I've never been asked) men 28, ladies 36.
La Finca Golf Course in Spain
is every golfer's dream. With luxurious housing, a friendly and
accommodating clubhouse, a top quality champion course that's
nestled amongst mountains and the coast, it's a true paradise. The
climate is one of the best in Europe and even better for playing
golf, all year round.
It to be the pick of the golf courses in the Alicante area.
Relatively young in years(2002) but already developed enough to test
the best golfers while still being eminently playable for the
beginner. The course is long and there is plenty of water, so a good
supply of golf balls and probably a buggy is recommended.Lakes and
natural running water abound as do the wildlife and add to this the
backdrop of the Mount escotera and you have a must play golf course
for the golf minded traveller.
The nearly
6500 yard course has been designed for tournaments. The natural
setting not only provides majestic views of lakes, trees and
mountains but it also challenges and makes the game more exciting,
including have to hit a ball on an island green on the fifth. Visit
many of the other neighboring golf courses when you have completed a
round at La Finca. Or perhaps visit the towns of nearby Algorfa and
Orihuela. La Finca is truly a golfing sanctuary and definitely one
of Spain 's sacred treasures. As with all international travel, we
recommend golfers traveling to multiple golf courses over the course
of the year should consider annual
travel insurance. It's the economic and essential way of insuring
a hassle free trip.
Villamartin Golf Club has an exciting design and many challenges.
The course is par 72 and the length is 6132 meters from the white
tees, 6037 from yellow, and 5259 from red. (Hole 17 counts as a
signature hole and is a par 3 with more than 200 m from the back
tee. A deep ravine is collecting many balls, and an extremely
undulated green will be a challenge to most players). Hole 17 is the
Par 3 signature hole with a demanding 200m carry off the back tee
onto an extremely undulating green. The shot from the tee crosses a
tree lined deep ravine that protects the hole and presents a
challenge to most players.
The course is very diverse and unlike many other courses in this
part of Spain, none of the holes are equal. One of the challenges is
the many old pine and olive trees. Regardless of the challenges one
can from several of the holes, enjoy the beautiful view over the
Mediterranean Sea.
La Serena lies in the municipality of Los Alcazares, occupying an
expanse of land right next to the Mar Menor. Mainly flat, the golf
course’s main difficulties will be the prevailing Levante wind and
the many water hazards that come into play in 16 of the 18 holes.
The course, which is not overly long, has a traditional structure.
Accuracy off the tee is a must for the player, who must thread his
way to the green amongst clusters of bunkers, desert areas and the
aforementioned water hazards.
